Settlement: The resolution of a bet where the dealer pays the player or collects the player's chips.
Seven Out: In the game of craps, when the shooter throws a 7 after a point has already been established, thus ending his roll and losing with the dice.
Shift Boss: A casino employee in charge of the casinos operations during a given shift.
Shill: A casino employee who pretends to be a player at a empty tables to attract customers.
Shoe: Generally a transparent or wooden device that can hold up to eight decks of cards and is used to dispense cards to be dealt quickly.
Shoot: A term used in craps to described the series of rolls that a shooter throws before a seven out.
Shooter: A shooter is a player designated to roll the dice and who throws determines wins and loses for all players at the craps table.
Shuffle Up: A dealer may shuffle cards prematurely if he suspects a player is card counting and also as a cautionary measure to discourage such activity.
Sitman and Pitt: Released the first 5-reel machine in 1891, manufactured in Brooklyn, New York.
Six Line Bet: In roulette, a bet on a combination of six numbers at the same time, also known as a line bet.
Slot Machine: There are 3 main types of slot machines 3-reel, 5-reel and Progressive Slots, these reels have different symbols printed on them, and given a certain outcome the player wins, a win is determined by a RNG at the time the reels start spinning and the reels simply reflect that win or lose situation.
Snake Eyes: In craps, a slang term used when referring to the number 2.
Soft Hand: In the game of blackjack, the term "soft" means the value can be changed, any hand in which an ace is counted as an 11 and not as 1 is a soft hand.
Spin: A term used for one spin of the roulette wheel, one game.
Spin Button: The spin button on a slot machine acts in the same manner as the lever found on the right-hand side of the machine, when pressed the RNG selects a series of numbers which depending on the outcome of that selection producing either a winning or loosing combination (outcome) for the player.
Split Bet: A bet placed on two numbers at the same time on the inside roulette layout.
Split Hand: In the game of blackjack, also known as splitting pairs, is only allowed when the initial two cards dealt are of equal value, the player splits the matched pairs and plays them as a separate hand.
Split Ticket: A keno ticket where two or more groups of numbers are played separately using the same ticket.
Spooking: An illegal act whereas a person standing away from the blackjack table identifies the dealer's down card or hole card and conveys that information to a partner sitting in on the game.
Square Bet: In the game of roulette, a bet on four numbers, also known as a corner bet or quarter bet and pays 8:1 odds.
Stand: A player's decision not to draw any further cards or hits, also known as stay.
Stand Off: In the game of blackjack and baccarat, a situation where both the player and dealer have the same hand total, also known as push or tie.
Stay: In the game of blackjack, a player's decision not to draw any more cards, also known as stand.
Straight-Up-Bet: A singular bet on one number on the inside roulette layout, pays 35:1.
Stickman: A stickman is an employee of the casino who calls the game, handles the stick and returns the dice to the shooter.
Stiff Hand: In blackjack, a player's hand which has little chance of winning, usually a hard 12-16.
Stop Loss: A preset limit of the amount of money a player is prepared to lose before ceasing the game.
Straight: Five cards in sequence from any suit, such as 6 7 8 9 10 or 8 9 10 J Q.
Straight Flush: This is a combination of five sequential cards in the same suit, such as 7 8 9 10 J of Diamonds.
Street Bet: In roulette, a bet on three consecutive numbers in the layout, that one number will come up on the next spin, the bet is placed outside the inside layout opposite the desired numbers in the layout.
Surrender: An option that is usually only allowed after receiving your first two cards and before the dealer checks for blackjack, the dealer will collect your cards and you will lose only half your original bet. Also known as early surrender.
Symbols: On the reels of slot machine symbols are imprinted giving a winning or loosing combination produced by the RNG the results are displayed on those reels for player recreational purposes.
